San Francisco Road Trip 6/24-27/05
Took a last minute road trip to San Francisco for the Down Home Blues Festival with blues demi-gods
Mihai and Solomon.
Great guys and great dancers. How did I get so lucky?
Ironically, I originally went down for the Blues Festival, but once down there I ended up doing mostly tango. I
couldn't help it. Both the blues and the tango dancing are great in SF, but I don't get to see my good tango
friends very often, and it's really hard to pass up the tango all-nighter at The Beat when you know they'll all be there.
We arrived in SF around 3:30a Saturday morning, and went straight to the late night blues dance. I was so happy to see
my good tango friend Homer Ladas there, who was hosting the late night venue. We had some fantastic tango dances
to the blues music, and I realized I was more in the mood for tango than blues.
I stayed with Homer and Christina the first night and went along with Homer and Charity when they taught a "Tango for Blues Dancers" class at the Blues
Festival. Then, it was off to The Beat where I got to teach the beginning drop-in lesson(!), and Homer did a great job
dj-ing the all-night milonga.
I was very surprised and happy to run into several PNW friends, including Radmilla and Kat from Seattle, and Rebecca from Eugene. So fun to see them so far from home! It was a great weekend, with amazing dancers, super music, and fantastic energy. I arrived back in
Portland Monday morning tired but energized and excited about tango. Truly a fun trip.
As always, if you recognize an unnamed friend or yourself in any of these pictures let me know!
