Welcome to Argentine Tango Classes with Carrie!
These classes are designed to give you the tools to comfortably and successfully dance Argentine Tango socially anywhere in the world.

Class Levels:
Level 1 - Intro to Tango for complete beginners and up.
Quickstart - 4-hour weekend intensive for complete beginners.
Level 2 - Beginning/Intermediate (pre-req: Level 1 or Quickstart).
Level 3 - Intermediate (pre-req: Two months of Level 2).
Level 4 - Advanced (pre-req: pre-approval of teachers).
The Tango Barre - Technique classes (open to men and women!).

Jumping In:
If you are joining my Level 3 or Level 4 classes for the first time, please ensure that you are familiar with all of the material covered in the earlier classes. We will be using those concepts in the higher level classes. If you are unsure of your level you can contact me for placement advice.

Privates:
Argentine tango privates are available in Portland for $50/hr.
Privates are available for $70/hr plus floor fee when I'm traveling. Contact me to schedule!

  
 

 

 INTRODUCTION TO ARGENTINE TANGO:  
 

Level 1:
This weekly series is designed to take you from complete beginner to knowledgeable beginning/intermediate tango dancer in just four weeks! The class will cover the unique tango connection, the beautiful music, a few basic turns, and some of the fascinating history and etiquette of Argentine Tango. Come learn the basics of this incredible dance and you'll see how easy it is to get started!

Quickstart:
Have you been curious about learning Argentine Tango, but just can't seem to find the time? No problem! The 4-hour intensive workshop is designed to get dancers and non-dancers out on the Tango floor in just one afternoon! The class will cover the unique tango connection, the beautiful music, a few basic turns, and some of the fascinating history and etiquette of Argentine Tango.

After finishing the Quickstart course, students will be eligible to take the Argentine Tango 2 weekly series, without taking Argentine Tango 1!

 ARGENTINE TANGO 2:  
 

Argentine Tango 2A and 2B:

These two series are designed to take you from a beginner to an accomplished intermediate tango dancer in just two months! You'll be introduced to vocabulary designed to expand your Tango versatility; ochos, the cross, the giro, and more. We'll also explore the sweetness of close embrace, and delve more deeply into the unique connection that makes Argentine Tango so amazing, as well as the hauntingly beautiful music.

If you are joining the Argentine Tango Level 2 classes and have not taken the Level 1 series or a Quickstart, please ensure that you are familiar with all of the material covered in them. We will be using those concepts! You may take the Level 2 classes in any order.

After finishing both Argentine Tango 2 series, students will be eligible to graduate to the Argentine Tango 3 weekly series! If you are unsure of your level please contact me for placement advice.

 ARGENTINE TANGO LEVEL 3:  
 

The Level 3 classes are designed for intermediate dancers who are interested in advancing and refining their knowledge of this intricate and moving dance.

A few of the concepts we'll explore in the Level 3 classes:

- Turns that fly!
- Transitions between steps and embraces.
- Ocho cortado moments.
- Decoding the mysteries of the pivot and torsion
- Sacada me, sacada you.
- Foolproof Boleos.
- Tango, vals, and milonga musicality.

 ARGENTINE TANGO LEVEL 4:  
 

These classes are for those who are looking for a challenge in tango. We'll cover the intricacies of this incredible dance and you'll see how infinite the possibilities are!

A few of the concepts we'll explore in the Level 4 classes:

- The dynamics of off-axis movements such as colgadas and volcadas.
- Leg wraps and ganchos.
- Dancing in earth, air, water, & fire to create juicy tension and release.

If you are joining my Level 4 classes and have not taken the previous level's series, please ensure that you are familiar with all of the material covered above. Instructor approval required!

  THE TANGO BARRE - Follower's Technique Series:  
  Every ballet class begins with barre exercises designed to warm up the muscles and develop muscle memory for when the real dancing starts.

We use this concept in each level of The Tango Barre Series to create fluid and graceful tango muscle memory that, by the end of each series, will happen without a thought. Each week we'll explore the mechanics of walking, ochos, the giro, and boleos, and we'll finish each class with stylish and playful embellishments in the most unexpected places.

Bring a pair of socks, your heels, and come prepared to work!
